Plano, TX- A letter was just received from the South San Antonio Independent School District informing Liberty Legal Institute that they have taken action against one of their teachers. The action followed a student’s allegations that teacher, Tim Duda, used profane language and belittled a student’s faith. Liberty Legal Institute has also been informed that the teacher was given a letter of reprimand, but the school district has never apologized to high school student Charity Santa Cruz, who was the victim of the situation.
“It is unfortunate that the South San Antonio Independent School District cares so little for Charity in this matter that they are unwilling to give her an apology even though it’s clear that they took action against the teacher,” said Hiram Sasser, Director of Litigation with Liberty Legal Institute.
Allegations against economics teacher, Mr. Duda, included belittling the student’s faith and sexual harassment. For example, he allegedly said, “G-Damn”… “To me God is a selfish, vindictive &$*@#$*.” Santa Cruz, an 18-year-old senior at South San Antonio High School, would read her Bible during free time in class, but was told by Mr. Duda, “Christians are condemning and self righteous…” She was also called names such as “Baby,” “Sweetie,” and “Honey.”
During the investigation, the school decided to punish Mr. Duda by suspending him with pay for several days and giving him a letter of reprimand. He has since been removed from that particular class.
“We are glad Charity has been vindicated. No student should have to go through what she has,” said Kelly Shackelford, Chief Counsel with Liberty Legal Institute.
