Religious Freedom Lawsuit Averted - Ft. Worth ISD Resolves Case

Plano, TX- A lawsuit was averted today when Ft. Worth Independent School District agreed to allow Good News Bible Club to distribute flyers in take home packets to parents of elementary school students.

The school had allowed the Boy Scouts to distribute flyers, but refused the Good News Club.

Although Good News Bible Club, an after school Bible study group, was initially denied permission to insert flyers in take home packets, school officials were very responsive to talks with LLI and agreed to allow the flyers to be sent home with students.

The flyers are intended to inform the parents of the after-school program in their child’s elementary school. Good News Bible Club rents space from the district in the elementary school.

“As soon as they found out, Ft. Worth ISD diligently obeyed the law by not participating in discriminatory actions. This is a great example of a school district doing the right thing. If every ISD acted like Ft. Worth ISD in this case, we would avoid problems like this all over the state,” said Hiram Sasser, director of litigation for Liberty Legal Institute.

LLI represents all Good News Bible Clubs, an organization affiliated with Child Evangelical Fellowship, throughout Texas.
