Plano, TX- The Texas Ten Commandments case, Van Orden v. Perry et. al., and the Kentucky Ten Commandments case, ACLU v. McCreary County will be argued before the U.S. Supreme Court today beginning at 9 a.m. ET in Washington, D.C.
“What the other side is asking for is that we start bulldozing our religious monuments and that is not what our Constitution says,” said Kelly Shackelford, chief counsel for Liberty Legal Institute.
In the Texas Ten Commandments Case, Shackelford and Liberty Legal Institute represent the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, a secular, international, social justice organization that donated the Ten Commandments monument in question.
In addition, Shackelford and Liberty Legal Institute represent the American Legion in the Kentucky Ten Commandments Case, ACLU v. McCreary County. The American Legion, a secular, patriotic, veteran’s organization, urges the court to uphold the monument to protect the countless veteran’s memorials that would come under attack if religious messages were not permitted in the public square.
Shackelford also organized all of the practice moots for both cases.
