U.S. Supreme Court Nominee Harriet Miers - One Big Question Mark

Plano, TX- As more information about U.S. Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers is surfacing, the reaction from conservative, Christian groups nationwide is becoming more divided.

“At this point, Liberty Legal Institute is remaining guarded, while we wait and see how Miers will do during the confirmation hearings,” said Chief Counsel Kelly Shackelford.

Evidence is appearing on all sides of the spectrum, linking Miers to both liberal democrats and evangelical, pro-life Christians. In order to form an opinion, groups are digging into records from more than 20 years ago.

“Miers has never been a woman in the spotlight. She has always remained under the radar; thus, we do not have much information on her political, moral or social views,” Shackelford said. “Truthfully, no one knows for certain what kind of justice Miers would be if confirmed. At this point, all one can do is trust President Bush, who knows Miers both personally and professionally, and has promised America that he would nominate judges who will not legislate from the bench.”
