Judge Rules in Favor of S.W.A.T.
Plano ISD Forced to Stop Religious Discrimination

Plano, TX- A federal judge ruled in favor of S.W.A.T., Students Witnessing Absolute Truth, and granted a Preliminary Injunction against Plano Independent School District.

"What is it going to take to get this district to stop violating the law. Now that the Magistrate has recommended a Preliminary Injunction be issued against Plano ISD, we hope the district will finally decide to stop its discrimination," said Kelly Shackelford, chief counsel for Liberty Legal Institute.

A Preliminary Injunction places a sanction against the district to immediately stop discrimination of the officially recognized, student-led religious group and lasts for the entirety of the lawsuit.

"The court could not have been clearer, Plano ISD is engaging in a "flagrant" violation of the law," said Hiram Sasser, director of litigation for Liberty Legal Institute.

This is the second religious freedom lawsuit filed against Plano ISD. It resulted when an organizational description of S.W.A.T. was removed from a listing of non-curricular clubs on the district website.

The Preliminary Injunction is the first step of the litigation process. If the case continues without a settlement, S.W.A.T. will ask the court for a Permanent Injunction, which will prohibit Plano ISD from ever discriminating against the club again.
