African American Church Wins Judgment Against City of Wichita Falls
Plano, TX- The church just announced to its congregation that the court entered judgment in favor of, Full Gospel Powerhouse Church of God in Christ v. City of Wichita Falls, et al., erasing all back taxes and restoring the tax-exempt status of the Full Gospel Powerhouse Church.
“This was a great victory for the church as they were able to get rid of this heavy burden of taxes, said Hiram Sasser, director of litigation for Liberty Legal Institute. “This relief will allow them to move forward as a church body.”
An agreement was reached between the church and Wichita County Appraisal District over the religious discrimination lawsuit to remove the taxes on the church and a judge entered a judgment fully dissolving them.
“We applaud the appraisal district and Wichita Falls for seeing the injustice and waving the taxes,” said Sasser. “The city and appraisal district should be commended for ending this suit and restoring the hope for this small church.”
