Supreme Court Accepts Memorials Case: Liberty Legal Defends Veterans' Honor
The U.S. Supreme Court just accepted the case of Summum v. City of Pleasant Grove. Liberty Legal attorneys have filed a brief in this case urging the Court to take the case on behalf of the largest and most influential U.S. veterans’ groups, including the American Legion, The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and others. Our friend Jay Sekulow will be arguing the case.
In the case of Summum, a religious cult claims it has a right to erect a monument on the lawn of Pleasant Grove, Utah’s courthouse because another monument is displayed. If the Supreme Court rules for Summum, a monument mocking Vietnam veterans would have to be allowed next to the Iwo Jima memorial in Washington, D.C. as well as a monument honoring Al Qaeda next to the 9/11 memorial.
Liberty Legal will be filing a brief in the upcoming months.
